Business News Network:  Canada’s premier national business new channel providing in-depth daily commentary on global equity and fixed income markets with an emphasis on the Canadian market place. Historical interviews are archived for convenient access and viewing.  Live streaming of BNN broadcasts are available through a subscription.  Pacifica Partners is a regular commentator on Business News Network.

CNBC: US based CNBC is an industry leader in providing US and global market commentary.  The website is comprehensive and contains an excellent earnings calendar as well as numerous additional informational services.  Live streaming of CNBC broadcasts are available through a subscription.  

Bloomberg: Bloomberg television is streamed live without the need for a paid membership.  US, Europe, or Asian focused news broadcasts and interviews are available from the same site.

Business News:

Financial Post: Canada’s premier national business news publications providing timely business commentary. Pacifica Partners writes a weekly column for the Financial Post.

Globe Investor: One of Canada’s leading news and market data information providers.  Globe investor provides the most thorough Canadian market data resource that we have come across to-date.  Of particular value is their wide-ranging Canadian mutual-fund data source.

Barrons: One of the most thorough and informative US news publications providing compelling and often unique articles.

Bloomberg: A comprehensive news and data resource for global markets, including, stocks, bonds commodities, as well economic and geo-political news.

Market Watch: Another thorough news source and market data portal which provides a very easy to navigate interface and convenient links to partnered investment news providers.

Baystreet: A Canadian centric news and investment portal which provides a thorough level of Canadian economic commentary, stock movements, earnings announcements, analyst recommendations and more.

 

Financial Planning:

Money Sense: Operating under the heading “Canada’s Personal Financial Website” provides users with financial calculators for their RESP, Mortgage, University Costs, and more.

Get Smarter About Money: This website was established by the Ontario Securities Commission to provide the public with a comprehensive investor education resource. The website is an excellent unbiased resource for financial and investment planning information.  Calculators are available for RRSP savings, housing expenditures, mutual fund costs, and credit card cost, among others.

Choose to Save: The Choose to Save program was instituted by the US Employee Benefit Research Institute and paid for by their Education and Research Fund.  The site is a non profit educational resource intended to spread awareness of personal saving for the purposes of combating high US personal debt levels.  The site contains a wide assortment of links to calculators from everything from Auto calculators to Roth IRA and Tax calculators.

Canadian Business: The Canadian Business Magazine’s online content which in addition to comprehensive news and market data provides a “My Money” tab that provides information on education, estate, insurance, and retirement planning.

 

Investment Portals:

Between the following four investment portals almost all general information sought by most investors on a day to day basis can be found.  Each portal has its own strengths and weaknesses and one is often favoured over another simply based on personal preference.

Seeking Alpha
: is a unique and in-depth news and investor information site which features a one of a kind online forum that allows registered contributors to post comments outlining their perspective on market movements.  Pacifica Partners is a “Seeking Alpha Certified” contributor to the Seeking Alpha website.

AAII (American Association of Individual Investors): AAII is a non-profit organization which provides excellent resources on mutual funds, financial planning, stock screening, and investor education.   Optional paid services are also available at highly competitive prices.

Investopedia: is an online financial dictionary and encyclopedia designed to clearly and concisely explain even complex or obscure financial terminology.


Canadian Real Estate:


House Price Index
: Teranet and National Bank jointly publish this Canadian home price index at a national level, as well as for six major metropolitan areas.  Home price index values are published with a two month lag from the current month.  However, a download of historical index levels and sales volume data is available in excel format.

Canadian Housing Price Charts: (chpc.biz) Brian Ripley's Plunge-O-Meter and Scorecard compares Canadian real estate market values for Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal against a backdrop of gold, oil, CPI, interest rates, employment earnings and mortgage affordability. This website is one of the best resources for Canadian real estate charts that we could locate.

Vancouver Condo Info: Is a community blog with daily discussions revolving around timely news and reports on Canadian and Vancouver real estate.

The Greater Fool: Is a daily commentary by former Canadian Minister of National Revenue, Garth Turner.  Discussion topics include Canadian real estate, economics, and Canadian politics.

Centre for Urban Economics and Real estate: Is a centre within UBC's Sauder School of Business. The centre publishes regular discussion papers and housing price data for eight metropolitan areas in Canada.

University of Toronto: The University of Toronto Map & Data Library provides an excellent summary of links to Housing & Real Estate data available from a number of sources.
 
CREA (Canadian Real Estate Association):  Will publish various reports and charts pertaining to the Canadian housing market.
 
Vancouver Market Trends: A summary of real estate listings, sales, months of inventory, and average prices for the greater Vancouver real estate market, compiled by Paul Boenisch.

Zillow
: A comprehensive real estate database which uses a proprietary algorithm for appraising real estate across the US.

S&P Cash Shiller Home Price Index: The leading index for measuring real estate markets within the US. Historic data is available in excel format.

Calculated Risk: One of the most highly regarded US economic blogs who are recognized for calling the US housing bubble in advance.
